Baked Bosc Pears on Half Shell

Halved Bosc pears filled with raisins, dates, or mincemeat and baked with brown sugar and cinnamon make for a tasty, healthy dessert.


3 fresh Bosc Pears
½ cup water
½ cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Raisin Filling:
¼ cup raisins
2 tablespoons chopped nuts

Date Filling:
1/3 cup chopped dates
2 tablespoons chopped nuts
½ teaspoon grated orange peel

Mincemeat Filling:
½ cup prepared mincemeat
1 tablespoon rum or brandy


Halve and core pears. Combine ingredients for desired filling and fill centers. Combine remaining ingredients; bring to boil and pour over pears. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until tender; baste frequently with syrup.

Yield: Makes 6 servings
